Good Energy with Andel

At Roskilde Festival, energy is not only something you find on stage. It is also what powers the festival behind the scenes, and what flows between people. That is why we have an energy partnership with Andel.

SCROLL DOWN

Our partnership with the energy and fibre network group Andel is about reducing Roskilde Festival’s climate footprint and engaging 130,000 participants in the green transition. We share a common ambition: to show how energy, community and action can create real change.

When we stand together, we can move forward, change habits, come up with new ideas and create lasting solutions.

Read on to see how our collaboration with Andel is making a difference, and how you as a participant are part of it.

Charge up! with Andel

Once again this year, you can switch off and recharge at Charge Up! with Andel, located right on the main route between Orange Stage and Arena.

This year, Andel has expanded the area with more seating, hammocks and small booths where you can relax or take a break with your friends.

There is power and charging cables, so you can charge your phone, and you can swap this year’s empty Volt charger for a fully charged one.

In short: meet Andel in the heart of the festival site. Find calm, recharge and get ready for the next concert.

We match electricity consumption with solar energy

From this year, we are matching a large share of the festival’s electricity consumption with production from Andel’s solar park in Vedde, which is Zealand’s second-largest solar park measured by energy production.

We have entered into an agreement, known as a Power Purchase Agreement, to buy electricity from the facility. In concrete terms, this means that one third of the electricity we use to power stages, lighting and food stalls is matched by production from solar energy.

The rest of our electricity consumption is covered through the purchase of guarantees of origin, which ensure the traceability of consumption from renewable energy sources.

The electricity runs through the Danish grid, where it is mixed with electricity from different energy sources. But with this agreement, we ensure that an equivalent amount of solar energy is produced at Vedde. At the same time, we are helping to create better conditions for more renewable energy in Denmark.

For us, it is about taking responsibility for where the energy actually comes from, and about connecting our consumption to concrete solutions beyond the festival site.

You can experience Vedde Solar Park for yourself. The area is open to the public and offers walking routes, an observation tower and nature with a focus on biodiversity, including 500 grazing animals.

From diesel and gas to the electricity grid and solar energy

Just a few years ago, Roskilde Festival’s stages, stalls and infrastructure were powered by diesel generators and gas in a temporary city of more than 130,000 people.

In 2022, we created a plan together with Andel to phase out all diesel generators and connect the entire festival to the electricity grid via transformer stations. This reduced diesel consumption by 72,000 litres a year.

In 2025, we took the next step. We removed all bottled gas from the food stalls through equipment upgrades and close collaboration with the stallholders. Previously, more than 100 stalls used gas to prepare over one million meals in a single week. In total, we have reduced direct CO₂e emissions by around 250 tonnes a year.

The transition has shown us that the biggest changes require us to rethink how we run the festival, and to do so in close interaction with our participants, partners and surroundings. That is the approach we are building on as we take the next steps in our green transformation.

About Andel

Andel is Denmark’s leading energy and fibre network group and a cooperative company with subsidiaries including Andel Energi, Clever and Fibia. The group exists to create value for customers and cooperative shareholders through vital infrastructure and future-proof energy solutions.

Smaller footprint, greater care

We are working purposefully to reduce our footprint and contribute to a greener future. That is why we are working towards having the festival eco-labelled according to Nordic standards.

We test new solutions, reduce consumption and think in circular ways, so resources are used more wisely, more gently and again and again. At the same time, we work with partners who, like us, want to push sustainable development forward.

But we cannot do it without you. When you take the train, choose plant-based food, sort your waste and reuse your gear, you are part of a movement that makes a difference.
