What do folk dance and felting have in common? Both emerge through repeated movements and have deep roots in our shared history. At Dancefloor, you can learn a very special folk dance with wool. Through the steps and rhythms of the dance, we work the wool together, felting it into three large wall pieces that will later be installed at the festival site as part of the artwork Uldværk: et arbejde i alle tider (Woolwork: a labour of all times).
Across two workshops, you can get close to the wool — a local resource that is often lost in today’s textile systems. As in the rural communities of the past, Hedestrik turns traditional techniques and processes into festive gathering points at this year’s festival. Together we create something none of us could create alone.
In the first workshop, the wool is prepared for the felting process, where you can learn to card and lay out wool for felting. At the second workshop, Nordisk Dans will strike up the music while the wool is felted. They will teach and accompany simple dances, so you do not need any prior folk‑dance experience.
Bring a friend and get closer to the raw wool — and to each other!
Hedestrik is a collective working with Danish raw wool. They draw attention to the large amounts of Nordic wool considered a by‑product, promoting traditional dogmas as an alternative to the fast‑paced yarn industry. In 2024, Hedestrik opened a wool culture house in Nørrebro, Copenhagen, and published the book Hedestrik; Uld, håndværk og landskaber.
Nordisk Dans is an initiative created by and for young people interested in traditional dance and music.
