Be surprised by an artistic story created collectively by young people

Artist Sahar Jamili creates a shared space for young people from the Taastrupgaard housing area in Høje Taastrup. Under the title A Dream of Tomorrow, they explore how art can bring people together and build identity through storytelling. Drawing on their own lives and surroundings, they develop an artwork for Roskilde Festival – without knowing in advance where the process will lead.

Through a series of workshops, Sahar Jamili introduces the young members of Taastrupgaard Art Club to different ways of telling and collecting stories. The participants are between 16 and 20 years old and meet at least once a week. They work with creative writing, sound recordings, interviews, objects that carry stories, visual exercises, and walks through the neighborhood. Along the way, their many experiences, memories, and perspectives are woven together into one diverse narrative.

No one knows yet where the story will end – perhaps something will emerge that no one had imagined.

The initiative grows out of the social housing master plan A Dream of Tomorrow in Taastrupgaard and is presented in collaboration with Roskilde Festival. The project is part of AKK – Almene Kunstklubber, which aims to create social change through art. Here, residents in public housing areas are invited to work with art and, through this process, build communities.

Danish‑Azerbaijani artist Sahar Jamili also aims to create social change through their art. They work scenographically and spatially with objects and materials as carriers of stories and meaning. These objects may be family belongings, found items, or historical artefacts that draw on everyday life, personal narratives, and visual references from different cultural and social contexts. Sahar Jamili explores the new stories and meanings that arise in the layers, relationships, and tensions between them. Sahar Jamili is based in Copenhagen.
