They call themselves “Britain’s Best Band”, and although – like so much else in the Bristol duo’s world – this should be taken with a healthy dose of humour and sarcasm, there is no doubt that Getdown Services are a breath of fresh air on the British music scene.

Childhood friends Josh Law and Ben Sadler began exchanging musical ideas during the Covid-19 pandemic, and their debut album Crisps, released in 2023 on Breakfast Records, was conceived in a bleak England gripped by both lockdown and the mood surrounding Brexit. Getdown Services, however, have a knack for creating songs that, with raw humour, take a swipe at modern England, whilst making the audience both smile and dance.

The atmosphere is as rowdy as the duo’s appearance is unpretentious, as they unleash almost stream-of-consciousness-style lyrics upon the audience over a bed of punk-infused riffs, glam rock hooks and heavy electro grooves, which have led critics to draw comparisons with Daft Punk and Justice.

Both their debut album and a string of subsequent EPs and singles have generated a lot of buzz around the duo, but it is their irresistible live performances in particular that have earned them a reputation as one of the most exciting new acts on the British scene. As the music site No Taste wrote after a recent gig with the duo: “Anti-establishment to the core, Getdown Services don’t just play gigs; they lead a sweaty, grinning revolt against the ordinary.” A formula that is sure to generate wild energy when Getdown Services visit Roskilde Festival this summer.
