SUSOBRINOBO

SATURDAY 4 JULY

A charming electronic tour de force through Latin America’s rich musical culture

  • Saturday 4 July

His stage name is derived from the Spanish word for “nephew”, and when Susobrino takes to the stage, the audience is indeed drawn into a joyful and dance friendly family celebration, where a wealth of Latin American musical traditions are invited to join the party.

Susobrino was born in Bolivia but is based in Brussels. This gives him both a native’s and an outsider’s perspective on Latin American musical culture, which he uses to create his own personal map, employing both acoustic instruments and electronic elements. As a young man, he learnt to play both the keyboard and the guitar, but gradually his curiosity shifted towards electronic music production. The ever-exploring musician simultaneously began collecting a wealth of traditional instruments, which he wove into his productions in a self-taught manner, thereby also opening a passage to his own musical roots.

An extended educational journey in 2023 took him through much of Latin America, with stops in Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia and Mexico. There, he not only immersed himself in a wealth of musical traditions, but also forged connections with local musicians who have helped to inspire his own musical vision.

The result is a tour de force that is both deeply charming and musically experimental, where electronic sounds and traditional percussion rhythms are woven together into a captivating whole that reflects humour, curiosity and broad musical horizons. And with a veritable fireworks display of cumbia, reggaeton and other Latin American rhythms, Susobrino is ready to get you dancing at Roskilde Festival this summer.
