LILLE SOLSTRÅLE SAD OG SÅ PÅ MÅNEN 16X9

Lille Solstråle Sad og Så På MånenDK/US

Start your day right with a 40-person choir performing songs inspired by the overlooked and late artist, Karoline Ebbesen.

Experience Lise Haller Baggesen’s reinterpretation of Karoline Ebbesen’s notebooks in the choral work Lille Solstråle sad og så på Månen at this year’s festival. The piece premieres at Platform as a live performance by the 40-member choir BARK, led by Lasse Aagaard, staged and costumed designed by Lise Haller Baggesen, with new musical compositions by Anders Lauge Meldgaard.

Since childhood, Danish award-winning visual artist Lise Haller Baggesen has been fascinated by the life and work of Karoline Ebbesen (1852-1936), many of whose texts are written in a simple yet poetic style, incorporating both fragmented and rhythmic elements. Her imagery often features recurring figures such as angels, churches, dogs, and stars. Throughout her artistically active years – from the mid-1880s, when she was admitted to Sct. Hans Hospital, until her death – she produced an extensive body of work, including drawings, textile work, and paper collages. However, it was not until after her death, that her work gained artistically recognition.

Lise Haller Baggesen, based in Chicago, US, is a critically acclaimed artist whose hybrid artistic practice consists of painting, multimedia installations, performance, and text- and textile-based works. She is the author of the book Mothernism and has exhibited widely in Denmark and internationally.

Anders Lauge Meldgaard is a Danish multi-instrumentalist and composer who works in a wide field of musical expression. BARK is a rhythmic choir based in Copenhagen. Founded in 2017, the 40 singers of the choir are today directed by Lasse Aagaard.

The performance is created in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art Roskilde for their upcoming exhibition Kaååråålines Vers at Sct. Hans where it will be presented as a performance and a sound installation.
