Volunteering at Roskilde Festival is about more than shifts. It is about community, shared experiences and seeing the festival from a side regular guests do not.
Being a volunteer means helping create Roskilde Festival from the inside – while still having plenty of time to enjoy the music, the community and everything else that makes Roskilde special.
Here are eight great reasons why thousands of people choose to volunteer every year – and why you might want to join them.
1. You get access to the festival – and plenty of time to enjoy it
As a volunteer, you get full access to Roskilde Festival. Your shifts are planned so there is still plenty of time for concerts, parties and breaks. Many volunteers are surprised by just how much of the festival they still get to experience.
2. Spend time with your friends – and make new ones
You can volunteer together with friends and, in many roles, ask to be placed on shifts together.
It is also an easy way to meet new people. You work closely as a team, and the sense of community tends to grow quickly – even if you arrive on your own.
3. Apply for quiet camping and hot showers
As a volunteer, you can apply for a spot in Volunteer Camping, where you can stay somewhere quieter, recharge between shifts and have access to hot showers.
Spaces are limited, so Volunteer Camping may become fully booked.
4. Food and drinks during your shifts
We provide food and drinks while you are on shift, so you can focus on the task, your team and the experience rather than the practicalities.
5. Access to Volunteers’ Village – just for volunteers
Volunteers’ Village is a dedicated meeting place for volunteers at the festival.
Here, you can relax and join activities such as sauna sessions, yoga, sound meditation, communal morning singing, music quizzes and bingo. It is a place for both downtime and community.
6. You help make a difference
There would be no Roskilde Festival without volunteers.
You help make the festival happen and become part of the collaboration and volunteer spirit that keeps the whole thing running.
7. Learn something new and build your skills
Volunteering gives you experience with teamwork, responsibility and new tasks.
That could mean anything from guest service and safety to construction or cooking – experiences and skills you can take with you beyond the festival.
8. Become part of a unique community
Many people return to the volunteer community at Roskilde Festival year after year.
It is an open and inclusive community where you can quickly feel part of something bigger.
If it’s your first time volunteering at Roskilde Festival, you probably have a few questions. We’ve answered some of the most common ones below.
With 27,000 volunteers, Roskilde Festival offers roles across everything from guest service and bars to construction, IT and behind-the-scenes work. That means there is a good chance of finding something that matches your interests.
You might work with hosting and safety, helping create a welcoming and safe festival for everyone. You could join a team working in food stalls, kitchens or bars, where the pace is high and the atmosphere is at the centre of the experience.
If you prefer practical work, there are roles in construction and site services, helping make sure the festival site works before, during and after the festival.
There are also volunteer roles in office work and IT, as well as more specialised positions requiring particular skills or interests.
You can find all current opportunities on our volunteer roles page, where you can filter by category and find something that suits you.
As a volunteer, you contribute a minimum of 24 hours between Wednesday 30 June and Sunday 4 July 2027, or 32 hours spread across the full festival period.
Shifts are typically around 8 hours, although this varies depending on the role. Some roles also take place before and/or after the festival, and this will always be clearly stated in the role description.
On selected teams, it is also possible to volunteer for a single day by taking one 8-hour shift and receiving access to the festival that day.
While on shift, you are expected to arrive on time and remain sober. Breaking the rules may result in removal from the festival and a charge.
Absolutely. If you and your friends would like to volunteer together, simply mention in your applications how many of you would like to join the same team.
That lets the team leader know that you would like to work together, so they can take it into account when putting the team together.
No. You do not need previous experience to volunteer at Roskilde Festival.
There are roles for many different kinds of people, and training is part of the experience. The most important thing is that you want to contribute and be part of the community.
Any age requirements or specific skills will always be listed in the individual volunteer role, making it easy to find something that suits you.
As a volunteer, you can apply for a spot in Volunteer Camping, where you can pitch your tent alongside friends who are also volunteering. Registration opens 1 May through your People profile.
Volunteer Camping is a quiet area designed to give you somewhere to recharge between shifts. You have access to free hot showers, phone charging and places to buy food and drinks.
The area is intended for volunteers who want to be able to get a good night’s sleep regardless of the time of day.
If you would rather camp with friends who are not volunteering, you can stay together in the regular camping areas.
