Tarrak is not just one of the leading figures on Greenland’s rap scene. He has also become a defining voice of his generation, weaving together the deeply personal and the political in poignant lyrics.

With a vibrant lyrical sensibility, Tarrak paints vivid portraits of modern Greenlandic society, whilst uncompromisingly dissecting colonialist thinking and delving deep into the roots of Greenlandic culture. There’s something fundamental at stake when he takes to the stage – Roskilde Festival already got a taste of this in 2023, where he delivered a fantastic concert.

Tarrak made his breakthrough with his debut album FxGxS (2016), with the track “Tupilak” in particular becoming a massive viral hit. In 2019, the album Josef Tarrak was released, in which the rapper explored the depths of the soul in a deeply personal and autobiographical project that has since also formed the basis for a play of the same name. Since then, he has collaborated with Danish rap stars Suspekt and appeared in the documentary film The Fight for Greenland (2020), and his artistic daring and personal lyrics have earned him several awards.

When Tarrak returns to the Roskilde Festival, it will be with a large-scale and unique show that both features a wide range of guests spanning Tarrak’s entire career and unfolds a vision of Greenlandic culture as seen through Greenlandic eyes. Here, you can look forward to experiencing powerful Greenlandic voices such as Peter Lyberth, Nina Sikkersoq Kristoffersen, Aka Niviana and others, whilst visuals by Inuuteq Storch will support the overarching narrative. At the same time, the concert will feature brand-new tracks that Tarrak has never performed live before, making it in every way a special encounter with the iconic rapper.
